La Canada, CA – [June 2024] – The Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) – Los Angeles is pleased to announce the awarding of five $5,000 scholarships to exceptional women at its recent annual membership luncheon. This event, hosted by Houry Aposhian at her home, recognized the scholarship recipients and celebrated the commitment of AIWA members whose annual dues support the organization.

Houry Aposhian graciously opened her home for the luncheon, emphasizing the significance of scholarships in recognizing the accomplishments of young women.”These scholarships are more than just financial support; they are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and potential of these young women. By acknowledging their achievements, we are investing in a brighter future for our community,” said Aposhian.

This year’s guest speaker was Teni Melidonian, Chief Oscars Officer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Melidonian shared her inspiring journey in the industry and the importance of perseverance and passion in achieving one’s goals. Her speech resonated deeply with the attendees.

During the event, Diane Cabraloff of the AIWA Central Board shared a compelling report on the needs and progress in Armenia, particularly highlighting the challenges faced by female-led households from Artsakh. She encouraged attendees to consider making donations to AIWA which supports these households through micro-grants. “Your contributions can make a significant difference in empowering women in Armenia and providing them with the resources they need to rebuild and thrive,” Cabraloff stated.

Nicole Nishanian, President of AIWA-Los Angeles, expressed her gratitude to the members for their unwavering support. “Our members’ annual dues are vital in sustaining the operations of AIWA, allowing us to continue encouraging and uplifting women through education and various initiatives. We are incredibly proud of this year’s five $5,000 Hasmik Mgrdichian scholarship recipients from California and an additional $2,000 scholarship awarded to a young woman from Gyumri. We look forward to seeing their future accomplishments.” The scholarships were awarded to women who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities, and dedication to community service. AIWA-Los Angeles is proud to support these talented individuals as they pursue their educational and professional goals.

The luncheon provided an opportunity for members to connect, celebrate the successes of the scholarship recipients, and reaffirm their commitment to the mission of AIWA. The organization extends heartfelt thanks to all its members for their continued support and dedication.
